Ella Heidi Sand
born in 1957, studied at The Oslo National Academy of the Arts, graduating in 1984, with further studies at New Paltz State University of New York in the USA. She has exhibited both nationally and internationally, and has held several solo exhibitions both within jewelry and object related works. She is represented in Norwegian public museum collections.
A recurrent feature throughout her work has been an interest in utilizing ornament as a way of expression, where the issue lies in the interplay between patterns, surfaces and spaces. Quite often the starting point principles inherent from constructions in nature, by recording, transforming and simplifying elements. She withholds an openness to implementing different technical methods, and the use of several kinds of materials, when needed to express her ongoing thoughts and ideas. She takes her inspiration from everyday life and finds that jewelry has an unusually close relation to the body, and is therefore an excellent way to open up for communication between the wearer and the viewer - about Art and Life.
Besides that she personally has developed art for public spaces, she has worked as an art consultant for prestigious buildings. Early in her career she initiated, and was also assigned by the Foreign Ministry, to coordinate Norwegian jewelry exhibitions abroad. She has been the Director of the Oslo based RAM galleri for 7 years (1995- 2002), and has worked at The Oslo National Academy of the Arts (KHiO), as a College Associate Professor (1989- 93) and as Professor and Head of the Department for Metalwork and Jewelry (2006-13). Since 2007 she has withheld a guaranteed income for artists.
Ella Heidi Sand, født i 1957, studerte ved Kunsthøgskolen i Oslo, ble uteksaminert i 1984, med videre studier ved New Paltz State University of New York i USA.
