Visual artist and philosopher, using media of photography and film as well as text form. Developing from a combination of photographic studies with background in classic academic philosophy, Aliona´s method is a visual research that unites photographic and philosophic practices. One of the primer interests is phenomenology of art. This implies reflective and self-reflective approach towards both art itself, its place within modern society and experience of being an artist. Among other main lines there is also the theme of collective identity and its cultural constructs, oppositions of presence and absence, real and fake, visible and hidden, immediate and mediated. Together with other challenges of nowadays existence of a human living in digital world surrounded by various media and alternatives of the real, these serious issues are often represented with irony, inspired by the everyday and familiar. In her expression Aliona uses capacities of both documentary and staged photography and practices genre of photographic sculpture and interactive experiments.

Connect - Disconnect
My work is concerned with the movement of language, body and space.
In all communication there are gestures, sounds, memories, silence, which divides or make up the gap between the spoken and not spoken, the shown and not shown. In this continues flow of movement, of language, we frame, put meaning into, receive, connect, disconnect. Through the nature of voice, intonation and body movement we create rythmical patterns changeable through interpretation. The movements are revealing landscapes and emotions.
